Live Your Mission, Embrace Your GIFTS, and Make a Difference

The most successful entrepreneurs know that if you focus on two things, above everything else, your success will be limitless. Those two things what is your mission?are your mission and your GIFTS (If you don’t know what I mean by GIFTS, click here and I’ll fill you in). Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs start off in business ignoring these two things or they lose their focus along their journey. The result is a business that doesn’t matter, a business that doesn’t make much of an impact, a business that burns you out, or a business that becomes just another joyless J.O.B.

Business owners who lack a mission don’t know what their purpose is; they don’t have a big juicy, powerful reason to make a boatload of money. They have no “why.” They could just as easily sell vacuum cleaners as well as handbags. It really doesn’t matter to them as long as they are making money. Mission-centered women entrepreneurs are different. They desire to positively impact the world. They focus on doing what they do best, and serving the people they are meant to serve. They leave anything and everything that falls outside of their mission or their GIFTS to someone else.

Here’s how you can fuel your passion AND make a difference in the world:

Get clear on your mission.

I don’t mean go and write some boring corporate mission that means nothing to you. I mean really get clear on your mission, your big fat reason to be in business. Find out what really gets your fire burning, what you are truly passionate about. Start off by answering the following questions:
1) Why did you go into business in the first place?
2) What is the change that you would like to see in the world?
3) What gets you fired up?
4) What is your vision for your business?
5) How will you and your life be different as a result of your business?
6) What will a successful business allow you to be able to do?
7) How will others’ lives be different as a result of your business?
8) Why do you get up in the morning?
9) What do you truly love about your business?
10) What is the legacy that you want to create?
11) What are your top 5 priorities in life?
12) What work would you do for free just because you love it so much?
13) What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
14) What makes your business special?
15) What are 3 things that would make you want to scream “yahoo?”
All of these things are reasons to succeed. Centering your focus on them will help you propel your business forward, keep you on track, and allow you to make a massive impact. The more passionate you are about your mission, the more drive, fuel, and power you will have.
Thank goodness for passion! The world is a much better place because we are all passionate about different things. Passion is the fire that fuels us to live joyful and meaningful lives, to share our unique gifts with others, and to do the great work that we are meant to do. Passion is a gift that we share with others.

Embrace your GIFTS. Most people would agree that it’s a shame to get a really cool gift, then hide it away and never seize the opportunity to use it to its fullest potential. Well now is the time to start focusing on the invaluable GIFTS that you have. Doing so will ensure your business (and life) success and allow you to make a huge impact.

Feedback & Comments:

  1. Yes! Share your gifts. I used to be one of those people who would buy decorative candles and never burn them. Now I enjoy them and then buy new ones. Don’t be someone who was given a gift and doesn’t use it… we are waiting for you to share it with us.

  2. This is a fantastic post and an amazing list of questions! I especially love this one: What work would you do for free just because you love it so much?

It really does feel so good to be able to answer these all in the context of what I am doing and to be spot on! I love what I do, I’m passionate about and I’m using my gifts and it feels so good to be making a difference and supporting myself !

  3. So important!! After I wrote my book “Be True Rich,” I went back and read it and then followed its advice to live a life I truly love. So, now I am pursuing music. It is awesome! XOXO, Katherine.

  4. Great list of good, thought-provoking questions. I often say that what I do is both my vocation and my avocation. I love being able to share that with others and help them on their journey toward health. And I appreciate those, like you, whose gifts inspire others to remember and focus on why they do what they do.

  5. Excellent list of questions for a person to go through and respond to each one.
