Make an Impact by Giving Back

I love Thanksgiving because it’s a great opportunity to spend quality time with family, be fully grateful for my blessings, and of course, enjoy some good food!  I’ve never cared to indulge in the Black Friday fanfare and I shop online all the time, so I don’t really get that jazzed about Cyber Monday, but I am super excited about #Giving Tuesday.

#Giving Tuesday, November 27th, is like the kick-off party for the season of giving.  While you don’t have to wait for an official invitation to show your generosity, it is awesome to acknowledge the act of giving back and making a difference.

Seeing how the core values of BrightFire Women’s Business Network is giving back and making a difference, I couldn’t let this day go by unnoticed.  Most service-based women entrepreneurs that I know go into business, not simply to make money (although it definitely is important), but also to help people and to create positive change in the world.

Here are 10 ways that you can give back and make a big impact:

  1. Choose a charitable partner.  Give a portion of your profits to your favorite charity and/or a charity that is aligned with your mission. This can be a one time event or take place throughout the year.
  2. Volunteer.  Donate your time to organizations that are dear to your heart and/or serve your target market. Remember, lead generation can happen anywhere.
  3. Host a live event and donate the ticket sales to charity. Create an offer on the back-end to cover your costs.
  4. Sponsor a charitable event or organization.  Sponsorships are a fantastic way to connect with your ideal prospects, provided you choose your sponsorships wisely.
  5. Create your own foundation.  Creating your own charitable foundation allows you to decide how your funds will be used and allows others to receive tax benefits when they donate to your cause.
  6. Organize a clothing and/or food drive. There is always a need for food and clothing throughout the year.
  7. Host a silent auction.  Colloborate with other business owners to host a silent auction benefiting charity.  Each business gains exposure (and possibly leads) and the charitable organization gains funds.
  8. Promote your favorite charities whenever you get a chance.  Help them spread the word about their mission and they may do the same for you. It’s the law of reciprocity.
  9. Create a strategic alliance with a charitable organization.  Find an organization that serves a similar target market and join forces.  Some of my best referrals have been from non-profit organizations and I absolutely love linking people to other valuable resources (it’s the social worker in me).
  10. Get involved! Go out and be the change that everyone else just talks about! There are so many ways to give back.  Take a moment and think of one way you can make a difference today.

Giving back really is a win-win situation.  Through your generosity, you are helping your community and consumers love to do business with companies that are making a difference in the world.  So go give and make an impact!

Feedback & Comments:

  1. Tiffany, I was fired up about #givingtuesday yesterday as well! I even posted this picture on my Facebook Business page of our PTA contributing to feed the hungry in our community. I’m honored to serve on great boards like our PTA but am also honored to have wonderful clients who believe in giving back to the community and make it part of their mission!

  2. Every year we adopt an elementary school child and do his or her entire Christmas. I’m so grateful and very happy to pass on presents and fun for a little kid each year. Honestly I believe all of us can solve many of the world’s problems by giving to others.

  3. I agree that part of business is to give back to others. I have not heard of #givingtuesday before, but it sounds like a great cause.

  4. Tiffany – It is so important to give back. To be grateful and appreciative of everything you have. To pay it forward and share. Even the smallest of gifts can make an impact and set waves of warmth and goodness out into the world … and you truly have no idea how far the ripples from that wave will reach!
